Minnie Mouse, Mickey's girlfriend, made her debut on 'Steamboat Willie' on November 18, 1928. She did not have her own cartoon series, but did appear in 73 cartoons with Mickey and Pluto. Over the years she has remained a popular Disney character, where in 1986 was declared Minnie's year, giving her much deserved recognition. Minnie was originally to be voiced by Marjorie Norton Ralston (the 13th employee hired at Walt Disney and worked in the ink and paint department.). According to he memoirs she says that "In November, a girl came to work, named Marcellite Garner (later Wall), (also of the ink and paint department), and one day I heard her talking and giggling as Minnie. She was perfect! I told Walt and Marcellite became Minnie for the rest of the years." And that is how Marcellite Garner became the official voice of Minnie Mouse from the first cartoon that Minnie spoke till her handed over the mouse ears to Ruth Clifford. She was later succeeded by several others from that department, and currently is voiced by Russi Taylor.

Minnie Mouse has two nieces, Melody and Millicent, who appeared in a few comic book stories.
